Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How bright is the Optoma GT2000HDR and will it handle ambient light?

The GT2000HDR outputs 3,500 lumens via a DuraCore laser light source. This is bright enough for most home simulator environments, including rooms with moderate ambient light. For dedicated sim rooms with controlled lighting, the image quality is excellent. HDR10 and HLG support enhance contrast and color depth for even more vivid visuals.

What is the throw distance for the Optoma GT2000HDR?

The GT2000HDR has a fixed 0.496:1 throw ratio. For a 100-inch screen, the projector sits approximately 3.6 feet from the screen. For a 120-inch screen, approximately 4.3 feet. This ultra-short throw distance means you can mount the projector very close to the screen and eliminate swing shadows entirely.

Can I ceiling-mount the Optoma GT2000HDR?

Yes. The Optoma ceiling mount is designed for Optoma short-throw projectors including the GT2000HDR. The mount supports up to 33 lbs with adjustable height. The GT2000HDR also supports 360-degree and portrait orientation for maximum placement flexibility.

Is the Optoma GT2000HDR a laser or lamp projector?

The GT2000HDR uses a DuraCore laser light source -- not a traditional lamp. The laser is rated for 30,000 hours of maintenance-free operation with no bulb replacements needed. This is one of the key advantages over lamp-based projectors at this price point.

Does the GT2000HDR support 4K or HDR content?

The GT2000HDR has a native 1080p Full HD resolution (1920x1080) but accepts 4K input and downscales it. It supports HDR10 and HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) for enhanced contrast and color depth. This means you get richer blacks, brighter whites, and more detail in shadows and highlights.

What is the input lag on the GT2000HDR?

The GT2000HDR has an input lag of 8.6ms, which is low enough for responsive golf simulation. Gaming Mode further optimizes for maximum contrast and vivid colors while maintaining smooth gameplay.

How does the GT2000HDR compare to the Optoma ZW350ST?

Both are DuraCore laser projectors with 30,000-hour life and IP6X dust protection. The GT2000HDR ($1,199) upgrades to 1080p Full HD resolution, adds HDR10/HLG support, and has a slightly tighter throw ratio (0.496:1 vs 0.521:1). The ZW350ST ($909) offers WXGA resolution at a lower price. Optoma lists a dedicated Golf Sim picture mode for the ZW350ST.

What is IP6X dust protection?

IP6X is the highest level of dust protection available. The sealed optical engine prevents dust from entering and degrading image quality over time. This is especially valuable in golf simulator environments where impact screens can generate fine particles.

Can I use the GT2000HDR with any golf simulator software?

Yes. The GT2000HDR connects via HDMI 2.0 and works with any simulator software including GSPro, E6 Connect, TGC 2019, Creative Golf 3D, Awesome Golf, and more. Dual HDMI 2.0 ports let you connect multiple sources simultaneously.

Does the GT2000HDR have a built-in speaker?

Yes, it has a powerful 15W built-in speaker. For most simulator setups, an external sound system delivers a better audio experience, but the built-in speaker is louder than many competitors and works well for basic use and testing.

How does Top Shelf Golf ship the GT2000HDR?

We ship the GT2000HDR free via FedEx. Orders typically ship within 1-2 business days when in stock. The projector weighs approximately 9.3 lbs packaged and ships in Optoma's original packaging with all included accessories.

What is the warranty and return policy?

As an authorized Optoma dealer, every projector purchased from Top Shelf Golf comes with Optoma's manufacturer warranty. The GT2000HDR is covered by a 1-Year Limited Warranty on projector parts and labor, plus a 5-Year or 12,000-hour DuraCore laser light source warranty (whichever comes first). If anything goes wrong, Optoma covers it directly.

All Optoma sales are final. No returns are accepted under Top Shelf Golf's current return policy. See our Return Policy for full details.

Shipping is free within the continental United States on most products over $150. If you find this projector cheaper on another authorized dealer website, we will beat their price.

Customer Reviews

Overall rating: 4.7 / 5 from 81 reviews.

The mount did not attach easily to the projector that you sold with it. Also, it is very disappointing that it takes a week, just to get the screen/enclosure into the delivery system.

Optoma Short Throw Projector Ceiling Mount

Store owner replied: Brice, thank you for the order, and sorry the mount gave you a fight. The OCM815W is Optoma's universal mount, and universal is exactly why it does not line up out of the box. The arms sit on the circular center plate and slide and rotate independently. You loosen them, balance them out against the ZW350ST's mounting holes, then tighten them down. Any hole pattern works, but no pattern comes preset. Give us a call at (888) 871-6110 and we will walk you through it in a couple of minutes. On the enclosure, the Carl's Place Enclosure is built to order rather than pulled off a shelf, and that build normally runs about a week before it enters the delivery system. Yours fell across the Labor Day long weekend, which added a few days. It shipped and is still on track for Friday, September 11, the date we confirmed with you when we spoke. Thanks for trusting us with the Garmin R50 build. Call us any time as you put the room together.

Top Shelf Golf is simply the best in the business. I enjoy doing business with Ivan who is extremely knowledgeable of the newest golf equipment and he gives the best customer service.

Adding the projector and the protective cover has taken my practice setup in my garage to new level. The projector brightness is great. I don't have to swing in a dark room to see the results on the screen.

The Optoma GT2000HDR Short Throw Golf Simulator Projector does exactly as advertised! It's easy to set up and delivers more than enough light during a room-lighted golf simulator swing session. I use it daily with my iPad Pro and an HDMI to USB-C adapter. The quality is great and there is no noticeable lag! This is hands-down a no-brainer!

Customer photo review of Optoma 4K400STx Short Throw Golf Simulator Projector

Plenty bright for my 8ft high 16/10 screen. Note: it was easy to set my Nvidia desktop gpu (I imagine amd and intel desktop gpu cards have this as well), through the “control panel”, to the exact 16/10 resolution of 3456x2160 then my apps, like gspro, had that as a selectable resolution. It has great tools to adjust the shape and size of the image to perfectly adjust to fit the screen borders. I didn’t notice much (any?) impact to image quality using those image adjust features features. I tried to mount the projector perfectly so I didn’t have to use any image adjustments but decided as a short throw projector I would not be able to do that as tiny mounting changes had major image impacts.

Customer photo review of Optoma 4K400STx Short Throw Golf Simulator Projector

My garage sim leaks a lot of daylight. Originally I had picked up a 3000 lumen 1080p Optoma but it just didn’t cut it. So happy I upgraded. The graphics are outstanding and the extra brightness means I can use it during the day and get a great picture. The unit does run hot, especially with the protective cover, so I added a floor fan nearby to keep the air moving. 10/10 would buy again.

Optoma 4K400STx Short Throw Golf Simulator Projector

Store owner replied: Hi Stacy - Please check out our floor mount cover for the projector, it has a built in fan. If you want to get our ProGuard cover, you won't have to use an external fan to cool down the projector. https://topshelfgolf.com/products/proguard-short-throw-projector-floor-mount

The staff at Top Shelf Golf were great to work with they were very patient and very helpful in buying the right projector and mount to go with what i was building thank you Blake

Optoma OCM815W Short Throw Projector Ceiling Mount

Great experience. I had some questions about the various resolution options for this 4k projector in different image formats (primarily 4:3), and an actual human answered the phone and told me everything I needed to know. I ordered the projector and it shipped ASAP. Could not be happier with the upgrade. I went from the Optoma EH200ST to the 4k400stx. In 4:3, its about 3 times the pixel density and 30% brighter. My sim is now at 2880:2160 at 60 frames on Ultra settings in GSPRO. The difference coming from 1600:1200 is very noticeable. The throw ratios were the same, so I was able to use the current projector mount with no issues. It does take quite a gaming rig to run this. I am using a GTX 3080TI, and it works flawlessly. Guessing you could go to a slightly lower card, but not much, if you want a 4k gaming experience with a stable framerate. Would certainly by from them again.

Optoma EH412STx Short Throw Golf Simulator Projector

Store owner replied: Hi Peter, you can either move the projector to about 5' away from the screen to cover the horizontal screen area at 4:3 aspect ratio with a smaller picture size or if you want to keep the projector where it is now, you can go to NVidia control panel and create a custom display resolution with reduced width so that the projected image doesn't violate the borders of the screen on left and right.

Great projection and works both for golf and can be hooked up to another source for movie night or sports on a giant screen! I have it hooked into an amplifier and speakers which enhances the golf and the movie capabilities! Highly recommended👍!
