  2. Set your screen. Enter screen width and height, or take the optimal size the calculator suggests for your room and aspect ratio. It caps screen width to leave side clearance.

Golf Simulator Projector Calculator FAQs

What do the projector specs mean (4K, 1080p, WUXGA, throw distance, lumens, aspect ratio)?
  • Resolution (4K, 1080p, WUXGA): how sharp the image is. 1080p is 1920×1080 and WUXGA is 1920×1200, a slightly taller 16:10 version that fills a sim screen a bit better; both look sharp on a simulator screen. 4K is 3840×2160 (four times the pixels), noticeably crisper up close and on very large screens, but the difference is subtle at swing distance and it costs more.
  • Throw distance: how far back the projector mounts from the screen to fill it. Short-throw sits close, which suits tight rooms and means less shadow when you stand up to hit; standard-throw needs more room depth.
  • Lumens and foot-lamberts: brightness. Lumens is how much light the projector puts out; foot-lamberts is how bright the image actually looks on your screen after room light and screen size are factored in.
  • Light source (laser vs lamp): a laser lasts around 20,000 hours, turns on instantly, and never needs a bulb change; lamp projectors cost less up front but dim over time and eventually need a new bulb.
  • Aspect ratio (16:9, 16:10): the shape of the image. Match the projector's native ratio to your screen so the picture fills it without black bars.
How do throw ratio and screen width determine projector distance?

Throw distance equals the projector's throw ratio multiplied by the image width it has to produce, not always the physical screen width. On tall 4:3 or 1:1 golf screens, a 16:9-native projector often needs a wider image to fill the screen height, so the distance is based on that projected image width. Most golf simulators use a short-throw projector with a throw ratio between roughly 0.49 and 0.90, which sits close to the screen and stays out of the swing path. The calculator runs this math for your exact screen and reports any horizontal overspill.

What screen size do I need for my golf simulator room?

It depends on your room width and ceiling height more than personal preference. Most home setups land between 100 and 150 inches diagonal. Leave clearance on the sides and top so the image fits without spilling onto the walls or ceiling, and make sure the throw distance still leaves room for the golfer to swing. Should I get a 4K or 1080p projector for my golf simulator?

For screens under about 120 inches, 1080p looks excellent and stretches your budget further. For 120 inches and larger, 4K resolves noticeably sharper detail and cleaner on-screen text. How many ANSI lumens do I need for a golf simulator projector?

Judge brightness by ANSI lumens, not vague LED or marketing lumens. Should I ceiling mount, floor mount, or table mount my projector?
