What costs do people leave off the list?
Three lines are easy to leave off a golf simulator budget:
A landing pad
It cushions balls dropping off the screen and covers the floor between the mat and the enclosure. Some complete builds include one and some do not, so check the parts list before you compare totals.
Frame pipe
With a Carl's Place enclosure kit bought on its own, the frame pipe is your choice: the Pipe Framing Kit, or EMT conduit you buy locally and cut to save. Our packages include the pipe kit.
A ceiling drop mount
Overhead launch monitors mount at a set height. On a taller ceiling, a drop-mount kit lowers the unit to where its maker wants it.

Is it cheaper to buy the parts yourself than a package?
Buying parts yourself saves money in three places: a plainer screen, pipe you source locally, and gear you already own.
- The gap on the DIY Enclosure: the bare kit costs less than our bundle before you buy pipe, and you give up the foam inserts, the side nets and the safety baffle to get there.
- The enclosure: the Carl's Place DIY enclosure kit alone comes in four screen materials, Standard, Preferred, Premium and High-Contrast Gray, and none of them includes frame pipe. Its page shows today's price for each size and material.
- The package version: the bundle in our DIY Enclosure package comes with the Premium screen, the pre-cut pipe kit, foam inserts, side nets and a safety baffle.
- Gear you own: the five screen packages let you choose "I already have a projector" or "I already have a mat". On each package page, removing a part takes its price off the total.
- A launch monitor you own: every setup's starting price already leaves it out.
What a package adds is fit: the frame is cut to the screen, the landing pad is cut to the bay, and the projector mount matches the projector.
Which golf simulator budget fits you?
Your room and your reason for buying pick the budget. Each line below names the build to open first.
- You want to swing this winter and get the garage back in spring: the Net build. No screen to hang, and the launch monitor moves to a bigger setup later.
- You want a course on a screen for the least money: the Built-In Screen with the SC4 PRO if the screen can mount to your walls, the SC4 PRO Floating Screen or the SC4 PRO DIY Enclosure.
- Room depth with the SC4 PRO: it sits behind the ball, so the DIY Enclosure needs 18 ft 9 in of room depth with it instead of 16 ft 9 in.
- Your room is short on depth: a launch monitor that sits beside the ball. The SkyTrak ST MAX sits beside the ball; start with the SkyTrak ST MAX DIY Enclosure.
- You do not want to buy or run a computer: the Garmin R50 build. Its courses run on the unit's own touchscreen with a Garmin Golf membership.
- You want nothing on the floor beside the ball: an overhead unit, such as the Uneekor EYE XR in a DIY Enclosure. Overhead units need a 9 to 10.5 ft ceiling, depending on the model.

Where should the money go in a golf simulator budget?
Put the money into the launch monitor and the enclosure first, because those two decide whether the numbers are true and whether the room is safe.
- The enclosure and screen are safety equipment. They stop the ball. They get real money before the projector does.
- The room filters before the price does. Ceiling height, width and depth rule parts in or out. Check yours in the golf simulator room size guide before you set a number.
What improves as you spend more on a golf simulator?
Each step up buys something different: first a full-size picture, then launch monitor placement, then the room itself.
- From a net to a screen: the course moves from a phone, tablet or TV to a full-size picture you hit into.
- From behind the ball to beside it or overhead: the launch monitor stops asking for room depth behind you. An overhead unit also leaves the floor clear for left- and right-handed players in the same bay.
- From a DIY Enclosure to a Pro, Curved or Built-In room: the Pro and Curved frames step up from 1-inch to 2-inch pipe, the Curved screen wraps around the hitting area, and the Built-In screen mounts to your walls with no frame on the floor.

What carries over when you upgrade a golf simulator?
- Carries over: the hitting mat, and the enclosure, screen and landing pad as long as you keep the same format and size.
- Most often replaced: the launch monitor and the projector. That makes the cheapest workable launch monitor and projector a fair way to start, and an enclosure sized wrong for the room a poor one.
- Check before you swap: software. Supported launch monitors differ by title, so confirm the new unit on the software page before the old one ships out.
- Buy once: the enclosure. It is bulky and sized to one room. Buy it for the room you will still have in five years.
One warning if you change a parts list: check the whole list again. A launch monitor that needs more depth than the room has, or a projector whose throw does not fit the screen, wastes the money around it.
