Install your golf simulator yourself, or know exactly what to hire out
How long each part takes to put in, how many people and tools it needs, and the three jobs worth paying a trade for.
The boxes land on the driveway and the first swing feels a long way off. It is closer than it looks: a net goes up with no tools, a pipe-frame enclosure with hand tools and a ladder, and a floor launch monitor needs no mounting at all. Three decisions remain: ceiling, power, walls.
Can you install a golf simulator yourself?
Yes, for most home setups. Most of what we sell is built for owner installation; the three cards below show the quickest jobs and the one that takes two people.
5 to 10 minutes
Push-button poles, no tools; side barriers take under 5 minutes more.
About an hour
Basic tools; you cut the 1 in EMT to the list unless you buy the pipe kit.
Two people, one lift
ProTee asks for two to lift the VX into its bracket, 9 to 10 ft up.
- Do it yourself: nets, pipe-frame enclosures, mats, a floor launch monitor, the PC and software, and a projector on a floor mount.
- Hire a trade for: a new outlet or network run at the ceiling, a ceiling mount where the joists are not where you need them, and the framing and finish work of a Built-In room.
- The two exceptions: Carl's Place sells the Built-In kit to people skilled at home renovation, and Foresight asks for qualified installers on the ceiling-mounted Falcon.
Start with the room: the golf simulator builder sizes the enclosure, launch monitor and projector to your space.
How long does each part of a golf simulator take to install?
Nets and enclosures in the first table, mounts and overhead units in the second.
| Net or enclosure | Time | People and tools | The job |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 to 10 minutes | One person, no tools | Push-button poles; the net slips over the frame | |
| Under 45 minutes | One person, no tools | Same push-button frame; screen and side netting hang on | |
| About an hour | 1/2 in wrench, 3/16 in hex key, tape, mallet, pliers, saw, 8 ft ladder | Cut 1 in EMT to the list (or buy the pipe kit), frame, enclosure, screen | |
| About two hours | A friend to help; 6 mm and 3/16 in hex bits, tape, mallet, pliers, saw, 8 ft ladder | Rigid steel-fitting frame; cables and springs tension the screen | |
| Under an hour (maker FAQ) | At least two people, a step stool or ladder | Color-coded push-pin poles; weighs 117 lb | |
| About four hours | At least two people; no proprietary tools | 2 in EMT frame with elbows, then the curved screen | |
| A construction project | Home-renovation skills; laser level, drill, stud finder | No pipe frame: anchors in the wall plates, screen 1 ft off the back wall, your own finish |
| Mount or overhead unit | Height and position | People and tools | The job |
|---|---|---|---|
| 22.7 to 32.9 in drop (576 to 835 mm); up to 33 lb (15 kg) | Phillips, 13 mm wrench; 3 mm Allen key included | Ceiling plate on lag bolts, then the projector | |
| 5 in, or 15.9 to 22.7 in; up to 55.1 lb | Drill; joists or rated toggle bolts | Horizontal ceilings only | |
| On the floor in front of the mat, at the projector's throw distance | Two steps, no tools | Projector on the base, top cover on, no drilling | |
Uneekor EYE XO2, XO and XR
|
9 to 10 ft up; XO and XO2 42 in ahead of the ball, XR 42 in behind | Bracket included; XO and XO2 CAT6 straight to the PC, XR via its PoE adapter | Hang, cable, calibrate in Uneekor Launcher (about 15 minutes on the XO and XO2) |
| 9 ft up and 3 ft 4 in off the hitting area, or 10 ft and 3 ft 7 in | Two people to lift it in; 4 screws, bubble level included | Arrow at the screen, slot it in, boxed 32 ft Ethernet to the PC, Calibrate World (ProTee guide) | |
| 9 to 10 ft up, 21 to 25 in ahead of the tee | Mount, laser level, CAT6 included | Slotted mount, two rear screws; over 10 ft a universal projector mount drops it into the window |
- The 9 to 10 ft rule: Uneekor measures it from the top of the hitting area to the bottom of the bracket and cannot guarantee accuracy outside it.
- Taller ceiling: a drop-mount kit comes with extenders from 6 in to 5 ft, from $489.80; the angled plate for vaulted ceilings adds $26.
- Cable before canvas (our guidance): power and a network drop to the ceiling before the enclosure goes up; Uneekor wants the XO and XO2 cable straight into the PC.

Drop-mount parts: a flat or angled ceiling plate, the extender pole and the universal mount

A finished built-in room: the construction work is yours or a contractor's; Carl's calls the job a challenging par-5
What order should you install a golf simulator in?
Ceiling work first, then the frame, the floor, the projector and the launch monitor. Six steps, each with the guide that goes deeper:
1. Measure and mark
- Ceiling at its lowest point, width, depth
- Mark the tee spot and the screen line on the floor
- Room size guide
2. Power and data
- Outlet near the projector and the overhead unit
- Network drop to the ceiling for a ceiling unit
- PC guide
3. Frame and screen
- Frame from the floor up, back to front
- Hang the enclosure, then tension the screen
- DIY enclosure how-to
4. Mat and floor
- Hitting strip under the tee mark you made
- Turf or floor tiles around the strip
- Lighting and flooring guide
5. Projector
- A sturdy platform at the planned distance, a second person watching
- Then the ceiling mount, or the ProGuard floor mount
- Projector placement guide
6. Launch monitor and PC
- Floor unit at its maker's distance; ceiling unit at its height
- PC, software, then calibrate on the tee mark
- Launch monitor comparison
Who installs a golf simulator, and what does it cost?
The install hardware starts at $99 (a ceiling mount), $349 (the ProGuard floor mount) and $489.80 (the drop-mount kit); the labor is yours or a local trade's quote. Three jobs are worth the call (our guidance), and none of them is golf-specific:
Electrician
- An outlet near the projector mount and the overhead unit
- A network drop if the PC sits outside the bay
- Our rule: run both before the enclosure goes up
Carpenter or handyman
- Ceiling mounts go into joists or rated anchors (our guidance)
- A vaulted ceiling: Carl's drop-mount kit has an angled plate
- Built-In rooms: the framing and finish work
AV installer
- ProTee: many owners mount the VX; some hire the bracket out
- Screws for the Falcon mount are not in the box
- Calibration stays yours: it runs in the software

Optoma OCM815W
- Tools: Phillips and a 13 mm wrench
- Fits: Optoma short throws
- Pick it when: the projector is an Optoma

BenQ CM00G3
- Tools: drill; screws in the box
- Fits: most BenQ under 55.1 lb
- Pick it when: the projector is a BenQ

ProGuard floor mount
- Tools: none, two steps
- Fits: 14.5 x 6.5 x 13 in inside
- Pick it when: the ceiling is off limits
- Hardware: ceiling mounts $99, the ProGuard floor mount $349, Carl's universal projector mount from $247.95, the drop-mount kit from $489.80.
- Labor: those figures are hardware only; the electrician, carpenter or AV labor is the local trade's quote. We are based in South Portland, Maine, packages ship free to the lower 48, and our support team gives installation guidance by phone at (888) 871-6110.
- "Installation near me": the trades above are local trades; the golf-specific part (mount height, calibration, software) is in the manual and our setup guides.
Which launch monitor is the easiest to install?
A floor unit has no mounting: unbox it, set it at the maker's distance, then follow its own registration, alignment and calibration steps, on the unit or in its app.
| Floor launch monitor | Where it sits | Price |
|---|---|---|
| 6 to 8 ft behind the ball, 8 ft of ball flight to the net | $499.99 | |
| 6.5 to 8.5 ft directly behind the ball | $599.99 | |
| 8 ft behind the ball, 8 ft minimum to the screen | $1,299 | |
| About 2 ft beside the hitting area, level with the mat | $2,999 | |
| Beside the ball; the hitting zone starts 16 in from the unit | $2,999 | |
| 16 to 24 in beside the ball, level with the hitting surface | $3,799 | |
| About 18 in beside the ball | $4,999.99 |
- Overhead units (EYE XR, EYE XO, EYE XO2, ProTee VX, APOGEE, Falcon) are the one real install: a bracket at the maker's height, a cable to the PC, a calibration.
- That height: 9 to 10 ft for most of them, 9 ft 6 in to 10 ft 6 in for the Falcon.
- What you get for it: a clear floor, and lefties and righties share the bay without moving anything.
- Ceiling outside the maker's range? Under it, choose a floor unit; over it, add a drop mount sized to the model. The overhead launch monitor guide has every unit's mounting figures.
Which setup is right if you want the least installation?
Pick by how much of a Saturday you want to give it. Each package page carries an assembly video:

Net package
- You build: net frame, mat on the floor
- Ceiling: about 8 ft (Home net)
- Pick it when: the room has other jobs

Floating Screen
- You build: push-button frame, screen
- Ceiling: 9 ft for the 8 ft 6 in bay
- Pick it when: no pipe to cut or source

DIY Enclosure
- You build: EMT frame, enclosure, screen
- Ceiling: 8 ft 3 in to 9 ft 7 in by size
- Pick it when: you own a hex key and a ladder

Pro Enclosure
- You build: steel frame, wrap, screen
- Ceiling: 8 ft 9 in minimum room
- Pick it when: the bay is permanent
- A Built-In room (Built-In Screen package, from $2,807) is the one format where the install is a construction project: the price is the screen kit and components, and the walls and finish are yours.
- Room minimums above are the package pages' figures; the six formats sit side by side on the golf simulator packages page, and the room size guide has the full table by format and launch monitor.
Bottom line: what does golf simulator installation come down to?
Three questions about the room, then an afternoon with a friend:
Ceiling
Most overhead units mount there (Falcon: 9 ft 6 in to 10 ft 6 in); lower means a floor unit, taller a drop mount.
Power and data
An outlet at the ceiling for the projector, a network drop for a ceiling unit: the electrician's job (our guidance).
Walls
A pipe-frame enclosure touches nothing; Carl's writes the Built-In kit for home-renovation and trades skills.
