Golf Launch Monitors
Which Golf Launch Monitor Should You Buy?
Camera beside the ball for an indoor simulator, radar behind the ball for the range and a deep garage, overhead for a permanent bay. Every model here, from pocket radar to tour-grade cameras, ships from an authorized dealer.
Find the Best Golf Launch Monitor for Your Room, Budget and Game
Three questions decide it: where you hit, how deep the room is, and whether you want the floor clear. Answer them here, then shop the group that fits.
The short answer
For a home golf simulator, buy a camera launch monitor that sits beside the ball: it reads the ball at impact and needs only a few feet of flight indoors.
Radar needs 8 ft or more of ball flight, so it suits the range and a deep garage. Go overhead for a permanent bay with a clear floor.
$1,695
Best-value camera unit for a home sim: cameras for ball data, radar for club data, indoor and outdoor.
$499.99
Radar pick: 6 to 8 ft behind the tee, 8 ft of ball flight to the net, range and sim play.
$5,999
Overhead pick: ceiling-mounted behind the golfer, sticker-free, for a 9 to 10 ft ceiling and a clear floor.

Radar vs Camera Launch Monitor: Which Is Right for You?
A launch monitor reads your shot one of two ways. Radar follows the ball through the air; cameras photograph it at impact.
Radar (Doppler)
Sits behind the ball and tracks the flight. The most affordable way in, and the group that goes to the range. Indoors it needs 8 ft or more of ball flight plus 5 to 12 ft behind the ball.
Camera (Photometric)
High-speed cameras photograph the ball at impact and just after launch, so it needs a spot beside the ball and only a short flight path. The fit for a dedicated indoor simulator; overhead units are cameras too.
Side by Side · Radar vs Camera vs Overhead
| Feature | Doppler radar (behind the ball) | Camera (beside the ball) | Overhead camera (on the ceiling) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where it sits | 5 to 12 ft behind the ball (sim-ready units), aimed down the target line | Beside the ball, level with the mat: 16 to 24 in for the Foresight and Bushnell units, about 1.5 ft for the Garmin R50, 16 in to the hitting zone for the Uneekor EYE MINI | On the ceiling, 9 to 10 ft above the mat (9.5 to 10.5 ft for the Foresight Falcon) |
| Ball flight it needs indoors | 8 ft or more from the ball to the net or screen (Garmin 8 ft, FlightScope Mevo 8 ft, Full Swing 8 to 10 ft, Voice Caddie 10 ft, FlightScope X3C 8 to 13 ft) | A few feet: it photographs the ball at impact and just after launch | Foresight Falcon: mat 10 to 12 ft from the screen; ProTee VX: no set distance; Uneekor: a 13 ft wide, 16 ft deep, 10 ft high room |
| Room our room-fit tool plans for | 18 ft deep for every radar and hybrid unit | 12 ft wide, 9 ft high, 12 ft deep for the Foresight camera units | 16 ft deep and a 9 to 10 ft ceiling (9.5 to 10.5 ft for the Falcon) |
| Outdoors and at the range | Yes, every one | Most; the Bushnell LPi and Uneekor EYE MINI LITE are indoor only | Indoor only |
| Left- and right-handers | Nothing to move | Move the unit to the other side of the tee | Nothing to move |
| Sim-ready models we carry | 6, from $499 (SC4 PRO) to $13,495 (X3C) | 11, from $1,695 (ST MAX) to $19,999 (QuadMAX) | 7, from $4,995 (NVISAGE N1) to $16,999 (Falcon) |
| Best for | The range, the backyard, a deep garage | A tight room, a dedicated indoor simulator | A permanent bay with a clear floor |

- Radar and hybrid units: our room fit tool plans 18 ft of depth, so the setback and the ball flight both fit with room to swing.
- Camera units beside the ball: we recommend 12 ft wide, 9 ft high and 12 ft deep for the Foresight GC3, GC3S, GCQuad and QuadMAX; Foresight publishes no room minimum.
- The NVISAGE N1 and NEO-E and the practice-only Swing Caddie SC200 Plus and SC300i list their room on their product pages.
- Measuring a room for the first time? Start with the golf simulator room size guide, then build the bay in the simulator builder.
Camera-Based Launch Monitors
These sit beside the ball and photograph impact with high-speed cameras, so they read the strike itself instead of the ball's full flight.
- Less depth than radar: the maker quotes a spot beside the ball, not a flight distance.

Launch Monitor FAQ
Twelve questions buyers ask before choosing a launch monitor: room, radar vs camera, GSPro, subscriptions, financing and returns.
For most home simulators the best launch monitor is a camera unit beside the ball: it reads the ball at impact and needs only a few feet of ball flight indoors.
The SkyTrak ST MAX ($1,695) is our value pick, the Bushnell Launch Pro ($2,999) the accuracy pick, and the Uneekor EYE XR ($5,999) the overhead pick for a permanent bay.
A camera unit is the better indoor fit when depth is limited. It photographs the ball in the first inches of flight, so the maker quotes a distance beside the ball: 16 to 24 in for the Foresight GC3 family.
Radar needs the ball to fly: Garmin asks for 8 ft from the tee to the net for the R10, Voice Caddie 10 ft for the SC4 PRO. Both kinds run simulator software; radar wins outdoors and on price.
Radar: 4.5 to 12 ft behind the ball plus 6.5 to 13 ft of ball flight, model by model in the room table above; our room fit tool plans 18 ft of depth for every sim-ready radar and hybrid unit.
Camera beside the ball: we recommend 12 ft wide, 9 ft high and 12 ft deep for the Foresight camera units.
Overhead: a 9 to 10 ft ceiling (9.5 to 10.5 ft for the Falcon); Uneekor's minimum room is 13 ft wide, 16 ft deep and 10 ft high.
Every radar and hybrid unit we carry works indoors and out, and so do most camera units: SkyTrak ST MAX, Bushnell Launch Pro, Foresight GC3, GC3S, GCQuad and QuadMAX, Garmin R50, Uneekor EYE MINI and NVISAGE NEO-E.
The Bushnell LPi and Uneekor EYE MINI LITE are indoor only, as is every overhead unit. Each card above is tagged "Indoor + Outdoor" or "Indoor only".
GSPro officially supports these models we carry: Uneekor EYE MINI, EYE MINI LITE, EYE XR, EYE XO and EYE XO2; FlightScope Mevo Gen2 and X3 (FlightScope lists the X3C as GSPro compatible); Foresight GC3, GCQuad, QuadMAX and Falcon; Bushnell Launch Pro.
Also on the list: Full Swing KIT, Garmin Approach R10 and R50, Rapsodo MLM2PRO and ProTee VX.
GSPro runs on a Windows PC and costs $250 a year. SkyTrak is not on GSPro's supported list.
Extra requirements per GSPro: Foresight units need FSX 2020 or FSX Play (sold through Foresight+ Gold or a legacy FSX license); the Bushnell Launch Pro needs a paid Foresight+ Gold membership; Uneekor needs its Pro Package; the Rapsodo MLM2PRO needs a Premium membership.
It depends on the model. The Rapsodo MLM2PRO shows spin only with its RPT balls; the FlightScope Mevo Gen2 and X3C need Titleist RCT balls or aluminum stickers for spin indoors.
The Foresight GCQuad, QuadMAX and Falcon, Garmin R50, Uneekor EYE XO and XO2 and NVISAGE NEO-E use club markers or stickers for club data; ball data needs none.
The Markers Needed column in the category tables above says which, and so does each product page.
Some do. The FlightScope Mevo Gen2 and X3C need none. Garmin's R10 and R50 need the Garmin Golf membership ($99.99 a year) for Home Tee Hero course play.
Foresight units get ball and club data on the free Foresight+ tier; Bushnell units need Foresight+ Silver ($199 a year) for club data.
Course play on either needs the Course Pass ($295 a year) on top of Silver or Gold ($599). Uneekor includes its Player package.
An overhead launch monitor mounts to the ceiling instead of sitting next to the ball, leaving the floor clear.
It is the choice for permanent home studios and commercial bays: nothing to step around, the same setup for right- and left-handers, and a built-in look.
It needs a 9 to 10 ft ceiling (9.5 to 10.5 ft for the Foresight Falcon) and a fixed install.
Ball data typically includes ball speed, launch angle, spin and carry or total distance.
Club head speed and smash factor show up even on the Swing Caddie SC200 Plus and Garmin R10; club path, face angle and impact location come from camera units and premium radar, and Bushnell club data needs Foresight+ Silver.
The full 47-point breakdown for every model is in our launch monitor comparison tool.
The Garmin Approach R10 ($499.99) is our pick under $500: radar that practices at the range and plays Home Tee Hero at home. The Swing Caddie SC4 PRO ($499) adds its own LCD display and five E6 Connect courses.
Under $700, the Rapsodo MLM2PRO ($599.99) adds measured spin with RPT balls and impact video.
